Mui Did It!

A little behind in the monthly Buddy pictures so here are the installments for months 19 - 23!
(row1 is 19 months, row2 is 20, 21 and 22 months, row3 is 23 months)

Sophia's picking up a lot more words now - pretty much repeats any exclamatory two word phrases that her brother uses.  Her favorite for the time being is "Mui (that's how she refers to herself) didit!!"  She'll say that when she buckles herself into her booster seat, when she builds some duplo block creation that she deems worthy of a "mui didit!!", when she draws something on a sheet a paper, etc....basically anytime that Matthew shows me something that he did, she'll try to do what he did and then tell me "mui didit!!"  In the picture below, she is telling me "mui didit!" after she put a puzzle together on the iPad. (and yes, that is her beloved blankie that she has wrapped around her neck!)

Other words in her vocabulary now:
Me-don-o (McDonalds)
Yeah! (also from Matthew)
Noe (nose - she also knows the chinese word for this)
A-pane (airplane)
Ba (bus)
aw done (all done)
dohng (cold in chinese)
yeet-yeet (hot in chinese)
hewo (hello)
diddy (kitty...as in hello kitty)
oh no!
han (hand - also knows the chinese word for this)
mut-mut (socks in chinese)
hem-it (helmet)
yee-doe (here in chinese)
daw-doe (there in chinese)
Muibee (also another way she refers to herself.  this is actually a nickname that Matthew came up with one day when he was being silly and trying to make up rhyming words.  maffew-daffew, mommy-dommy, and then out of nowhere came muibee-duibee...and that is how muibee came to life)
and there's a lot more other words that I just can't think of at this moment...

She's also started semi-potty training.  I don't force her to go use the potty, but sometimes when I ask her if she has to go, she'll say Yeah! and then we run up the stairs to go to the elmo potty seat.  After she goes, she'll start clapping and say "mui didit!!" and then motions to get wiped so that she can go ahead and flush the toilet.

Sophia can definitely be a girly girl.  She's very particular about what clothes she wears - if given the choice, she'd wear her polka dotted purple leggings (see picture below where she is sitting on the other girls) every. single. day.  Oh, and she'd pair it with her leopard print hoodie if she was cold (as shown in her "mui didit" picture from above).  She also "fixes her hair" (my cousin captured this in a video of hers: hope this link works!) and doesn't mind putting a clip in her hair now.  She also likes to carry around bags like it's her purse as well as accessorize with sunglasses and necklaces.  She's also partial to pink stuff and loves Hello Kitty.

On the flip side, she possesses tomboy qualities as well.  She loves to run around and play with her brother (i even caught them wrestling each other down to the ground the other night!), play with balls, ride bikes and play with duplo blocks (toddler version of lego blocks).  She really just loves copying whatever her big brother is doing and is usually a bit more daring/adventurous than he was at her age.  Here's a picture of her after she climbed up onto a chair to get some french fries while none of us were watching her!

I can't believe this little baby girl is turning 2 in a month!  And for the record, the terrible twos already made multiple appearances starting a few months ago! =P

Look Who's Talking 2

It seems like all of a sudden she's picking up more words.  We went to SF to visit Chrissy and Sophia came home with new words like "poo!" (which is suppose to be pool, and not actually poo), "beeee!" (beach), and "mein-mein" (noodles - or anything that resembles noodles, like shredded cheese).  Other words in her vocabulary are:
pees = please
joo = juice
hai = shoe (in chinese)
beah = bear
hoi = open (in chinese)
bebe = baby
woe-woe = dog
yue-yue = fish (in chinese)
baw-baw = ball
moe-moe = elmo
She also does a lot better repeating after us now.
Here she is "spelling" her name:

And here she is repeating her ABCs after me:

Won't be long before she's having full conversations with her big brother!

1 and a Half Year Old!

Height: 32inches (61st percentile)
Weight: 24lbs 5oz (51st percentile)

Can't believe my baby is 1.5 years old!  In general, she's a fun, loving little sweetheart, but don't let those big eyes and cute smile fool you - she's quite capable of throwing tantrums and manipulating people (especially grandparents! =P) to get what she wants.  But then again, look at the mischievous little smile/smirk of hers - it's difficult to resist! =)

She has about 10+ words in her spoken vocabulary: Mama, dada, gaw gaw (big brother), paw paw (maternal grandma), gong gong (maternal grandpa), nie nie (milk), bo bo (her blankie), po po (pick me up), a-ma (amen), poh (pooh), babo (bubble) and probably some other ones I can't think of right now.  Here's a somewhat recent video capturing some of those words.

She's becoming quite independent, but she loves copying whatever her big brother is doing.   It's nice to see that they are starting to "play" together - which usually means she wants to have [a version of] whatever Matthew has and she follows his actions.  The other day, it was nice out so we went outside to have some bubbles fun and when Matthew made some bubbles and started running after the bubbles to pop them, she was running after him with her arm in the air trying to pop bubbles too.  When Matthew was running back to get some more bubble solution, he stopped and jumped the last few inches that got him to the bubble solution.  Sure enough, you see Sophia running back, stopping and then trying to jump.

She loves "reading" books, although she's usually not patient enough to let me read the entire page before she wants to flip the page.  But she has her favorite books that she'll always bring to me to read for her.  Right now it's a book about penguins and another book about Clifford when we are in Matthew's room.  When we're in her room, she has a different set of favorites that she likes to leaf through while sitting in the chair, with her blankie, of course.

She's also starting to pick out her own clothes, when she feels like it!  Sometimes when I tell her we need to go change, she'll run to her room and pull out the pair of pants that she wants to wear.  Sometimes she'll give me a hard time if I try to change it to something different.  Other times she doesn't want to be changed at all, but if I tell her that it's going to look so pretty, she'll stop fussing.  When I'm trying to get her crazy bedhead hair tied up in a little elastic, she'll fight me on that until I mention that she's going to look so pretty.  We've got a little sassy one on our hands here!  Love her so much!

Recent Loves

Guess who is really good at crying real tears and then immediately turning them off when she gets what she wants?  Despite her little tantrums, she's still the most lovable little girl ever!  I love how she walks around on her tippy toes everywhere around the house with both arms around her blankie which is bunched up around her chest/stomach so that it doesn't get in the way of her getting around.  I love how she always finds the corners of her blankets to rub between her thumb and index finger while she's watching TV or cuddling with me.  I love the silly faces she makes and the silly things she does to make people laugh (lately, that's been pulling up both pants legs above her knees and walking around and putting dominoes down into her onesies!)  I love how she knows exactly what she wants and will point her way there and say "mmmm mmm mmmm" while pointing at what she wants.  I'm not so thrilled about how she loves to watch TV, but I love how she'll point to the TV or find the remote and give it to us and say "mmm mmmm mmmm" so that we'll turn it on for her.   I also love how she'll put her hands in front of her with her palms up if she can't find the remote - her way of saying "where is it?!"  I love how she backs herself up to sit in my lap so that I can read the book she has chosen.  I love how when she hears someone say "good job", she'll automatically put her hand up for a high five, even if the the "good job" wasn't intended for her!  And finally, I love how she loves having an audience clap and cheer for her when she accomplishes something, as you will see in the video posted below.  *sigh*  she's growing up too fast!

15 Months Old

Weight: 23lbs (53rd %tile)
Height: 31inches (68th %tile)

This little girl is growing up so fast.  Her vocabulary consists of mama, baba, pawpaw (grandma in Chinese) and dodo (what she's really trying to say is gaw gaw, which is what she would call Matthew[big brother in Chinese]).  Through head and hand motions, she also knows how to tell us more, please, yes, no and thank you (when we remind her to).   But her understanding of what we say to her and what is happening all around her is leaps and bounds above what she can clearly communicate to us.

When it's time to go somewhere, she'll go and grab her coat and give it to us to put it on her.  She'll go grab her socks and shoes and put it by her feet.  One time when grandma said "bye bye", she went and grabbed grandma's purse for her without anyone telling her to do so.  Another time when she saw that I was giving Matthew a bath, she went and grabbed his towel for me.  She's so observant and very good at putting one and one together.  Sometimes she'll even go grab a diaper and hand it to me after she does her business if she's not preoccupied with something else.

One of her favorite things to do is to copy whatever her big brother is doing.  If he's playing with blocks, then it's time for her to play with blocks.  If he's pretending to fly his toy airplanes through the air, she'll fly whatever toy she's holding in her hand through the air.  If he starts jumping up and down because he's excited to watch TV, then she tries to jump up and down.  It's really cute how much she looks up to her brother.

She also loves dancing when she hears music.  You'll see in this video that her idea of dancing is walking around in circles.

She loves putting her cylindrical blocks into its matching round opening in the lid of her blocks container.  She loves her blanket.  She loves to eat.  She loves to say hi or bye to strangers when we're out.  She loves giving kisses and big hugs (when she feels like it).  If you ask her for a hug, she'll put her face next to yours and sometimes wrap her arms around your neck and say "haaaaaaaaaa" as in "hug".  I love it so much when she does that to us out of the blue!

She loves a lot of things, but here are her latest loves....
taking baths / playing in the water

and walking around in these squeaky slippers.
